Sorry to be so dense but what and where is 'Blog This' and why is that preferable to postings made directly?

Monday, January 29, 2001

I think I will send an email to Gopal and convey my belated birthday wishes. Sujaya, Please try to use Blog This to post to the page. You will find it a lot easier once you get the hang of it.

Welcome aboard Sujaya! I am delighted that you were finally able to get on to the ZooFriends page. I am sure that this page will see a lot more activity now that we can all look forward to your newsy posts. I got in touch with Radha a few days back. I will be going to Mumbai to attend a Scrabble tournament in February.
On the office front, I have been posted as Commissioner of Rehabilitation. I joined the new office on 17th January. Not a lot of work, so I am catching up on reading and swotting for the next Scrabble tournament.
Dear Zoo Friends,

Ok folks - the repeated references to the deafening silence got to me so here goes....

This is my second attempt to post a note on this page. I better succeed since I guess I was the one that suggested that we need a means of keeping track of friends from the Zoology Dept.

Last year I managed to meet a LOT of folks that passed through the dept. at the same time as I did. First I met Anita Sethi in July during her US vacation. Then we had the one-of its-kind Ooty reunion with Radha, Gopal, Mohan and Shrikant. Next, I got to see Archna, Sushma, Rita, Dipak and Dharam Vir Joshi in Delhi. I also spoke to Ravi Jain. Back in the US, K. N. Saxena and I traveled on the same flight from the Entomological Society of America Meeting. Then, just before the year ended, V. K. Gupta visited me in Corvallis. He mentioned that H. C. Aggarwal had been a postdoc at Oregon State University in the lat 60’s (I think). HCA happened to be visiting his daughter in New Jersey and I got to speak to him. How’s that for one year’s (actually 6 months) achievement? who can beat that record? I

I guess I got lucky. Thanks folks for responding to my attempts to meet you all. How many of you got the photos I sent?

After being at the University of California for several years, I thought I was moving to this unknown university, Oregon State University (OSU), in this never-heard-of town Corvallis. Turns out, six months earlier, Mohan was here attending a conference so knew all about the place (Is there anything Mohan does NOT know?). Then Gopal tells me that his colleague’s relative is off to Corvallis to start a graduate program at OSU. Next I hear that Aggarwal was here years ago. Finally, guess what… the football team is ranked 4th in the country, and you know what that means in the US - EVERYONE now knows about OSU!! Now there is a sense of well being here, there is talk about increased enrollment, cars have ‘GO BEAVER’ flags on each side……. forget the Nobel Prizes, you can tell what counts at US universities.

It is 6.30 pm on Sunday, and there is a knock on the door of my office. It’s a cop! Apparently a microscope was stolen last week from the neighboring building. I suppose small town Corvallis is not theft exempt and I better get back home.

Cheers,

Sujaya

Thanks Mohan, I also wish you, your family and all the zoo friends an exciting and eventful 2001.
I also hope more zoo friends would post messages here. Mohan would it be possible for you to put your crosswords on the blogger page?
BYE-BYE
